The best spots to eat + drink on the Southern GC

We are lucky to have a great foodie scene on the Gold Coast these days. There are new restaurants and cafes popping up left, right and centre and we are here for it! These are our go-to’s when we head out for the night, whether it be Italian, Japanese, Asian or a bar, these are the spots to check out.

Our favourite Italian places to head are:

  • Balboa Italian, Palm Beach – Pizza and Pasta, deli meat boards, good wine
  • Pepe Deli, Palm Beach – Classic Italian dishes
  • Gallura, Tweed Heads –  Fresh coastal Italian, traditional, so delicious
  • Radici Pasta House, Coolangatta – All pasta is cooked fresh by a nonna every day, homestyle cooking, family friendly

For authentic Mexican food we are loving these spots:

  • Agave Rose, Kirra – Get there for happy hour – the frozen mango margs are great, they do cassava chips and authentic Mexican flavours.
  • Clay Cantina, Coolangatta – Super authentic flavours, tucked off the main street in Coolangatta, cute vibes
  • Cara Cara, Tugun – they do a good coconut marg + have a fresh take on their tacos and meals
  • Hail Mary, Burleigh – Great margis, pretty decor, good food.
  • Lucia Tapas, Tugun – Not mexican, but Spanish and amazing!!

Most restaurants on the Gold Coast have an Asian fusion, but this is where we go to or order from for Asian takeaway or Fusion dining.

  • Rick Shores, Burleigh – This is a must visit when you come, but maybe leave the kids (we tend to find they wreck the mood of the place – our mood not the restaurants haha). The bug roll is the thing that everyone orders when they come to Rick Shores – it’s amazing. The rest of the menu is also yum.
  • Sala Thai, Tugun – Great Thai take away option. Dine in, take away or uber eats.
  • Sticky Rice, Tugun – A fresher Thai option with delish cocktails
  • Maman Bar + Kitchen, Burleigh – All the fusions, delicious food, good drinks too.
  • Light Years, Burleigh – Modern asian food, so good they have 3 other venues across the country.

  • O Sushi, Coolangatta – Freshly made Japanese, they use biodynamic brown rice. Simple, delicious food.
  • Zipangs, Currumbin – Sushi during the day, traditional Japanese by night. This is our local go-to when we are at work.
  • Oi Izakaya, Burleigh – The most delicious, tasty Japanese food we’ve had in a long time.

If you’re in need of a drink, these places will quench your thirst…

  • Balter Brewery, Currumbin – A working brewery and tap room, they have a food truck over the weekends.
  • Rosella’s, Burleigh – Aussie inspired, forever changing and seasonal cocktail menu, toasties are on offer and the feature for us is the Alf Stewart themed bathroom.
  • Pavillions, Burleigh – The perfect setting for a drink and pizza/nibbles, it’s THE place to be at the moment.
  • Tupe Aloha, Kirra – Get there Thursday’s as it’s $1 wings day, good drinks, good vibe.
  • Four Pines, Coolangatta – Tap beer + burgers right in the heart of Cooly.

We love a brekky or a brunch around here. These are our favourite spots…

  • Stable, Currumbin – Super family friendly spot with good food, organic products are used, good coffee, allergy friendly.
  • Barefoot Barista, Currumbin + Palm Beach – Central spot in both suburbs, never disappoints.
  • The Salt Mill, Currumbin – The trendy spot for coffee and the best açai bowls on the coast
  • The Bread Social, Currumbin + Tweed Heads – Pastry + pie heaven, good coffee too – Currumbin is better as a take away option.
  • Golden Times, Bilinga – New kids on the block with proper soul food + all made with love
  • Love St, Kirra – A cool spot for all day + night hangs.
  • Social Brew, Burleigh – Tucked off James Street in Burleigh this is a winner for brekky + lunch
  • Paddock Bakery, Burleigh – Offering cutting edge pastries + the best dippy eggs we’ve had.
