The Southern end of the Gold Coast really is one of the most beautiful parts of the world. It is away from the main tourist strips of Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach, but close enough that you can visit and then come back to the quieter Southern end. We are only about a 30 – 40 minute drive to all the theme parks, 10 minutes at the most from the Gold Coast Airport and an hours drive from Brisbane.
We have self-serviced holiday accommodation in Palm Beach, Currumbin, Tugun, Bilinga and Kirra. These suburbs are nestled between the slightly bigger, bustling suburbs of Burleigh Heads and Coolangatta and are only a short drive away and easily accessible via public transport.
From the Valley to the Alley, Currumbin offers the best of both worlds. If surfing is your thing the rolling surf of Currumbin Alley is perfect for beginners and learners; and on the other side of Currumbin Rock, Currumbin beachfront offers a consistent wave for more advanced surfers.
Currumbin was recently named Australia’s Cleanest Beach, and is perfect for beach walks, with a patrolled area for swimming in the clear blue waters. For a more rainforest feel you only need to go for a 10 minute drive the other way - towards the hinterland. Currumbin Valley is a must see with fresh water rock pools to cool off in, the perfect spot for a family picnic, or bushwalking through the native rainforest.
Mention Currumbin and many Queenslanders will instantly forage for their photo of Currumbin Alley or a rainbow lorikeet perched on their head at the famous Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. It would be almost sacrilegious to start a story on Currumbin without mentioning the Wildlife Sanctuary, for not only was it one of the earliest theme parks on the Gold Coast, but it has been entertaining visitors here for more than 60 years. These days it’s not all about the birds, but a range of wildlife dotted throughout 27 hectares of eucalypt and rainforest where you’ll find crocodiles, kangaroos, koalas and marsupials.
Palm Beach, Currumbin, Tugun and Bilinga all have flagged swimming areas, places to surf and Currumbin also has board hire, surfing lessons, paddle boarding and a number of other water sports.
And don’t forget the amazing food options in the area. You can see our faves here.
